Dietary Cards

Show dietary preferences to restaurant staff - communicate food needs across the language barrier

The Dietary Cards tool provides Chinese-language dietary preference display cards for foreign tourists with special food needs. It covers 12 common dietary requirements: vegetarian, vegan, peanut allergy, shellfish allergy, gluten-free, dairy-free, halal, kosher, no pork, no spicy, no MSG, and low sodium. Each card has large Chinese text, pinyin pronunciation, and multilingual translations. Cards can be shown full-screen to restaurant staff to communicate your dietary needs clearly.

  • Peanut and shellfish allergy cards have prominent warning symbols to ensure staff take them seriously
  • Chinese cooking often uses peanut oil, soy sauce (contains gluten), and MSG - declare allergies early
  • Vegetarian food is increasingly available in big Chinese cities, but note many 'vegetable dishes' may use chicken broth or lard
  • Halal restaurants are common in China especially in the northwest - look for the green halal symbol
  • If staff do not understand the card, try using the voice playback feature
  • Show the card before ordering for best results
  • Consider saving screenshots to your photo album for offline use without internet
