Pro Tips

  • Register WeChat before you leave home — registering after arriving in China may require a Chinese phone number for verification
  • WeChat Pay now supports international Visa/Mastercard. Single transaction limit is about $200 USD, daily limit about $500 USD
  • Bookmark frequently used Mini Programs (like DiDi, Meituan) for quick access next time
  • The "Scan" function works for more than payments — scan Chinese menus, signs, and documents for instant translation
  • WeChat groups hold up to 500 people. Join local tourism groups for real-time advice and help
  • Red packets (hongbao) are part of Chinese social culture. Open them within 24 hours or the money gets returned
  • WeChat Pay works in some countries outside China (Japan, Korea, Thailand, etc.) so it remains useful after your trip
  • If payment fails, check "Services" → "Wallet" → "Help Center" for troubleshooting
