Usage Guide

Download Amap (高德地图) from App Store or Google Play

Open the app — it works without registration for basic navigation

Allow location access for accurate GPS positioning

To search: Tap the search bar and type destination (supports English and Chinese)

For navigation: Tap the destination on map → Select "Route" → Choose driving/walking/transit

For public transit: Select transit mode to see metro+bus combinations with transfer details

For ride-hailing: Tap "打车" (taxi icon) to compare prices across multiple ride platforms

Download offline maps: Go to Settings → Offline Maps → Select your city
Pro Tips
- Amap is more accurate than Google Maps in China — Google has a coordinate offset that makes locations appear 100-500 meters wrong
- Save your hotel location as a favorite — you'll need it every day and it avoids typing mistakes
- The ride-hailing feature compares prices across DiDi, T3, Cao Cao, etc. — great for finding the cheapest ride
- Use "walking navigation" with AR mode — it overlays arrows on your camera view, perfect for finding entrances
- Check the "real-time traffic" layer before driving — red means heavy congestion, plan alternative routes
- For subway: Amap shows which exit is closest to your destination — saves lots of walking underground
- The "Nearby" feature sorted by distance is perfect for finding the closest pharmacy or convenience store
- Screenshot your route before entering the subway — you won't have signal underground in some cities
